Photography has always been a major part of Roberta's life.  Her first camera was her dad's Hasselblad.  Living in Sierra Madre, California, she walked up the street to the Community Center and took her first photography class at the age of nine.  Under the Christmas tree that year was a Vivitar enlarger, and a bathroom was quickly converted into her first darkroom.

Roberta is an American artist with a European heritage which influences her art and daily life.  Born in North Dakota, she moved around the United States to Baltimore, MD, Rochester, NY, Arcadia, CA, Albuquerque, NM, and Islesboro, ME.  In Europe she lived in Munich and London.  Her grandfather made violins and cellos, her father sang in the Leipzig boys choir in Germany.  Her father, a retired physician is exploring his love of painting and has recently begun showing his work.  Her mother taught English, sang in choirs and played the piano, recorder, and viola da gamba.  The homes were filled with books and original art from around the world including many reproductions of Impressionist masters such as Renoir, Whistler, Degas, Rousseau, Dufy and Klee. Roberta has three sons who share her passions - from sailing to cooking, photography to travel and everything in between.

Moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for jr. high school, she began photographing weddings for family and friends, developing and printing every image in her new darkroom.  In high school she studied film production and wrote, filmed, and produced public service announcements for the Albuquerque Police Department and Planned Parenthood.  Over the years her commissions have been portraits, landscapes, weddings, and still life subjects.  Six years ago she dove into the digital world.  It allows her more freedom than she ever expected.  Learning through experimentation is part of her every day joy. HDR, high dynamic range photography is a digital technique which she has embraced.  It allows her to create a scene and capture all the intermediate tones without extra lighting or color enhancement. The result is an inherent painterly image which is filled with detail, intrigue and depth.
